Coil Cleaning for Abu Dhabi Homes
When a unit smells damp or blows weak air, the coil itself needs washing - common in island apartments.
1. Room covered
The floor and furniture under the unit are protected before work starts.
2. Unit opened
Covers and filters are removed to expose the coil and fan.
3. Cleaner on the coil
A coil solution is sprayed on and allowed to work into the fins.
4. Rinsed clean
Coil and fan are rinsed through into a catch bag hung below the unit.
5. Drain flushed
The drain tray and pipe are flushed so nothing backs up afterwards.
6. Closed and run
The unit is closed, switched on and checked for cold, even airflow.
7. Final checks
Outdoor unit and gas pressure are checked; any further fix is quoted first.
Where the smell comes from
An AC removes moisture from the air, so its coil and drain tray are wet whenever it runs. In Abu Dhabi's coastal humidity - especially on Al Reem, Saadiyat and Yas, and in Corniche towers - they rarely dry out. Dust settles on the wet surfaces and mould grows on the dust.
When the unit switches on, the blower pushes air through that layer and the smell comes with it. Washing the filter does not help, because the mould is on the coil fins and the curved blades of the blower wheel.
